Spiderman

I can't believe it.  I'm reading actual books again.

Now, don't get excited.  I'm not reading the Classics or something on the Best Seller's List.  I'm reading everyday, ordinary paperbacks.  And I'm loving them.

It's just nice to HOLD a book again.

But this means I'm spending less time on the internet.  Less time on fanfiction.  I have a feeling this will level off as the newess of it wears off, but until then, I'm going through paperbacks about two/three a day.

Good thing I have a goodly pile of books to go through.

The tale of a coat.

I watched My Bloody Valentine 3D with Jensen Ackles this weekend.  What hit me the most being a Dean Winchester fan was the coat they had Jensen in.  Black, sleek and it fell between his hip and knee.  Love that coat.  Jensen looked fantastic in it.  I know it's not exactly a 'Dean' kind of coat, but I want Dean in that coat.  Nice for the gunslinger/hunter vibe.

Then I watched Warehouse 13 to see Joe Flanigan.  Sheppard!  The Hair!  OMG!  He has on the coat (or one very similar)!  Nicely fitted.  Black, sleek and it fell between his hip and knee.  He looked smoking in it!  I never thought that the people on Stargate Atlantis dressed Joe right.  All his stuff seemed to not fit him (maybe that was intentional to show how uncomfortable John Sheppard was in most social settings) and they almost never showed him off at his hot best.

I'm sure there's someone out there who knows what kind of coats those two were wearing.  Me, I don't know.  I just know they were hot!

I never realized that my summary for Amor Vincit Omnia gave the impression it was an Ezra/Casey het story.

I guess I worded it badly.  Here's what I had on All-Ezra:
Casey is in a horrible accident. Can Ezra help her through it?

That's the old summary.  When I posted it on FanFiction, I changed it to:
Ezra helps Casey after an accident and then must face J.D.'s anger. Deals with a permanent disability and graphic medical procedures.

I guess it's still a little iffy.  While the story does reference Casey trying to 'sow some wild oats' during the events of Lady Killers to get even with J.D., the only het intention is Casey/J.D.  (I do mention a little Li Pong/Ezra, but that's in passing.)  There is no sex in the story.  I don't even think anyone kisses anyone in it.  Just some talk, some intentions, a whole lot of angry!J.D., angsty!Ezra, determined!Casey, and supportive!everyone else.

(Guess I'll have to think of another summary.)

Bwahahahahahaha!

I was watching the DVD commentary for The Nigerian Job, The Homecoming Job and The Wedding Job and that's what smacked me in the head.  This will be an Eliot heavy post.  'Cause I love Eliot.

Eliot is the gun safety bear.  (Commentary for The Homecoming Job.)

Goren was MPREG, There were fake Yetis . . .

  • Jul. 27th, 2009 at 10:15 PM
moon

I don't think I'd been drinking before I went to bed last night or during my dream.

The dream involved:

  • Bobby Goren (L&O: CI) was pregnant.  He ate a whole bowl of cereal and then kept throwing up milk.  He would not go to the bathroom, I had to keep throwing handtowels at him.  He was so bent on solving a case, that he paid little attention to the mess he kept making.  One thing I don't need in a dream is a mpreg man throwing up milk and expecting me to get it up while he mutteres about motives and suspects.  (I don't know how he got mpreg.)
  • Two guys came out of some woods dressed as Yetis.  They lloked a lot like the Yeti/Bumble from Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.  There was another guy with them and they kept going around creeping up behind people to scare them.
  • And the Yetis (and the guy) kidnapped my dog.  They all jumped into a van.  I don't have a dog.
  • Later, my butler would not listen to a thing I told him to do.  You know, my butler for my mansion with the hand painted murals, bathrooms the size of dance halls and rich old growth wood accents.  Yeah, I laughed when I woke up and remembered that part too.

I was thankful when I woke up.  This will not be a plotbunny.

It might make for a good country song.  I did lose my dog.

It was running me crazy trying to think of that Western.

Step 1:  I remembered one character was called 'Wolf.'  (I remember him going a little nuts during a stand off on a stormy night.  Howling or yelling with a knife.  I did love Wolf.)

Step 2:  I know what the actor looks like, but I'm bad with names.  By chance I saw the promo for The Goods (an upcoming movie).  The guy that played Wolf is standing RIGHT THERE!  Yay!  I zip over to look up the movie's cast.

Step 3:  I go actor by actor in that age group until I get to Charles Napier.  Of course!  I click on his history.  Oh!  Tales of the Gold Monkey!  Street Hawk!  Focus, you idiot.

There it is:  Outlaws from 1986!  Yay!  Only 12 episodes and I still remember Wolf.  And I practically named the show in my last post about trying to think of the name.

Step 4:  Now I can run myself crazy about something else.  (Or think how the characters would have interacted with The Magnificent Seven in the Old West.  Or, what if The Boys are the ones who were sent forward in time?  Yeah, I know there are AUs out there with The Boys in the present day -- Highlander AU, ATF, FBI, FAM, etc. -- but I mean The Boys from the show being plopped down in the here and now.  That would be interesting!)

sam n dean
I was thinking about Wildside (1985 Western) and thinking about Sutton Hollister (who I had a thing for) and wondering 'Was Meg Ryan actually in that?'  (Yes, she was.  She was Cally Oaks the spunky liberated woman wanting to be a reporter and had a thing for Sutton.)

I got to thinking about another Western show.  I think it was late 80s/early 90s.  A Ranger was chasing a group of outlaws.  Just as they faced off in the middle of the night in a storm, lighting hit them all.  They are shot to the future.  They are shocked by the technology (planes!) and such.  I think the Ranger ended up confiding in a woman law enforcement something and he kinda liked her.  I think they spent most of the time keeping the outlaws out of trouble.

What was that show?  I just can't remember anyone in it or what it might have been called.  I even checked the list of Westerns on wiki, but it's not there or I'm just not seeing it.

Running me crazy!

Houston Knights, Hardball - OMG!

  • Jul. 24th, 2009 at 4:13 PM
Darn

1987?  Houston Knights was on way back in 1987?  And there were only 31 episodes?  I clearly remember their names - LaFiamma and Lundy.  I remember that both actors had the same first name.  I think I remember LaFiamma putting his foot up on a saloon bootrail and he had on very stylish loafer type shoes in constrast to all the 'cowboy' boots in the place.  I also remember that after a fight of some type in the woods, the camera cut back to them standing really, really close with their heads together.  Kinda leaning towards one another.

But I didn't know that the show's run was so short.  My memory is so wonky.  (I'm going to have to check my older VCR tapes to see if I still have one of those episodes.)

I also looked up Hardball.  You know, Kaz?  The eager renegade cop who was paired up with the old veteran in 1989.  18 episodes?  Are you kidding me?  I remember the storm around Kaz (Richard Tyson).  Girls went crazy over that boy.  Not me so much.  He wasn't my type, but I liked the show okay.  I don't remember anything from the show, but I do remember a photo of Tyson on a bike looking all badboy.  Hee!  And every time I saw him in anything else, I referred to him as Kaz.

Hey, I did that for LaFiamma and Lunday as well.  Oops, I do that for Sheppard, Dean, Sam, Lt. Goldman . . . okay, I do it for all the actors I like.  They'll just have to put up with me calling them by the name I first saw them using.

Forever and ever!

Eliot!  I can't believe this -- Dean Winchester is more cut than you are!  I love you, Eliot, but I kept getting distracted during the shirtless fight scene by the fact you need to hit the gym more.  (I know you have a few years on Dean, but dude.  Yes, I am that shallow.  If you look up my posts on Dean Winchester, John Sheppard, Jim Reed and a few others, you will quickly notice that I'm no deeper than a rain puddle in the middle of the desert in June.)

(Okay, so I'm giving Chris Kane some crap.  I only do it because he knows Jensen Ackles.  Being men, I'm sure [hope] it's come up about working out and staying in shape for their careers.  Yes, let me contemplate that conversation taking place.)

rant on\

I was discussing a few shows with a friend and my friend suggested a few things to watch.  Two of which I immediately rejected because they involve my 'do not pass, do not collect $200' line.

Adultery (or Cheating if you would like to call it that for the not quite married, but in a committed relationship).

She made the argument that the relationship on one show is so very over, that it's been over and that the two sleeping together really, really care for each other even if it is still technically adultery.

Too bad.  Break up or get a separation or a divorce.  Or, if that's not possible due to circumstances, tell the partner that you intend to sleep with someone else.  Don't just run around and leave the partner in the dark.  (Of course, if your partner has been missing for five years and you're not sure if he/she is even still alive, that's a little different.  Or if it's an abusive raltionship and any contact will allow him/her to locate you and beat the ever living daylights out of you.  Really, I'm not talking about the extraordinary examples.)

It's a button with me.  One that I'm not likely to get over any time soon.  And it seems to pop up more and more on TV, in the movies and in the written word.  And it makes me loose all interest.

I don't need my main characters to be saints or perfect.  I don't need Mary Sues or Stus.  (Some of the best characters out there are tragically flawed people who are just doing what they can to survive.)  But I sure as hell expect them to not run around behind their partner's back.  Even if you're not 'in love' with him or her anymore.

I was watching bits of The Song of Bernadette about Saint Bernadette Soubrious and my mind slipped over to Supernatural because I was scanning my videos to see what I had on them.  So I was like *clickplay* that's Supernatural episode blah-blah-blah *clickstop - fastforward* watches Bernadette get raked over the coals for what she's saying *clickplay* oh, more Supernatural - Dean is so hot . . . well, you get the picture.

Then I got to thinking, which is usually not good.  It usually turns to Dean.

There is a Gospel about the Winchesters (written by Prophet of the Lord Chuck Shirley AKA Carver Edlund), Angels of the Lord and Demons are coming out of the woodwork, a whole lot of Sinning and Tragic Events are taking place.  And a whole lot of Standing Against Evil and Fighting the Good Fight.  Sacrifice is flying off the shelves like it's half off or something at Wal-Mart.

It sounds like a recipe for saints!  (Yes, I may be going to hell just thinking about this.  I'm sure someone out there has some really, really good, logical reasons why Sam and Dean CAN NOT be saints.  Hey, if Chuck can be a Prophet of the Lord, then Sam and Dean get to be saints.)

Maybe the boys (if they survive Season Five) will retire to some religious getaway and comtemplate their pious lives.  Give themselves over to the service of The Lord.

*snorffle-snort*

Oh, Geez!  Can you picture it!

Saint Dean!  Saint Sammy!

Yes, he's gonna be Saint Sammy because Dean says so.  And Dean's older so he's always right.

Things I find on my old video tapes

I have bunches of old video tapes that I have no idea what they contain.  I never was good at labels.  (Yes, video tapes.  They still work and I'll use them until they break or go snowy.)

So last night I took out a bunch and checked them over.  AND MADE LABELS.

What I've found so far:

Brimstone - how many episodes did that have?  See, I liked the Supernatural before Supernatural
Farscape - mixed seasons
Supernatural - Nightmare and some others from season one
Swift Justice - man, that shows been gone for years
Blind Justice - heh!
Hercules - heh!  Hey, I liked Thor's episodes.
Xena - OMG, I have some Xena?
Emergency! - from when they ran on TVLand, only got a few since they were snatched off the schedule
SG-1 - looks like maybe season 4 and some season 5
SG Atlantis - looks like some season two
Combat! - I don't know what seasons
Tour of Duty - when they were on TNT, not the orginal showings
Dark Angel - mostly Jensen Ackles episodes, yes!

I still have a bunch more to look at.  It's kinda fun waiting to see what else I have.

And I love it when a plan comes together.  On a lot of shows lately, I'm left hanging with a half victory or loads of angst -- not Leverage.

I know they won and it was sweet.

Now, I'm looking forward to Psych's return!  Also funny and lots of win!

The best part of watching The Closer is the interaction between Provenza and Flynn.  I alternate between thinking they are the cutest older guy friends ever to glee over the fights they get into (with each other and others).

The things they get themselves into!  Hee!

Last night was hilarious for Provenza and Flynn fans.

Leverage - Darn! I do NOT need a new fandom!

  • Jul. 12th, 2009 at 10:58 PM
Spiderman

So, Leverage.  The last two episodes from last season was on last night.

What the heck?  I didn't have anything else to do.  MISTAKE!  Geez!  Now I have a new fandom and new fanfiction to look for in a small fandom.  And I have to  catch up on the episodes I missed.

I liked Timothy Hutton from Nero Wolfe.  I know Christian Kane mainly from Angel and then I found out he was Wick Lobo on Rescue 77 (which I loved).  Oh, yeah, and he knows Jensen Ackles (who I love with the power of a thousand burning suns -- well, I'm not that bad off -- okay, I'm lying).

I love Eliot Spencer.  There, I said it.  He's going on my list.  Yeap, the spot next to Dean Winchester is open.

Yes, he knows Dean.  And I'm sure he's related to Shawn Spencer from Psych.

Hey, it's my tv-verse.

Supernatural - The Eating
Warning – some cussing, some thing eating a dead body, same level of ick you see on the Supernatural show.

There’s a thing in the corner and it’s sucking out the marrow from some guy’s bones, but Dean just can’t work up enough energy and outrage to do anything about it at the moment.

The Qualms - An Explanation of the Crazy

  • Jul. 9th, 2009 at 7:11 PM
fic

Okay.  Everyone and their uncle knows I'm having a hard time writing anything.  I can barely put together an outline of an idea.  So I'm going to work on my problems in a very messy, sloppy way.

Qualms - I have them.  So I'm going to ignore them by writing whatever I want.  Whenever I want.  I won't worry about if the thing has a beginning or a middle or an end.  I won't worry if it makes sense.  I won't worry if it's going to make someone mad or sad or glad.  I won't worry that it sucks or is lame.  I won't worry about putting disclaimers or headers, just a few warnings about content if needed.

Any fandom, any character with anyone/anything doing whatever I tell them to do.

And if I have any qualms about it, I'm keeping it to myself.  There will be no explainations about the fic, no disclaimers about what it's about to be badfic, no justifications, and no plans to write more than one ficlet at a time.

It will be freedom!  (I won't scream 'Freedom!' or hum the movie's music in a haunting way.)

So, if you see any subject lines with 'Qualm' in there, it will be a writing thing.

Perry Mason movies (1930s)

  • Jul. 1st, 2009 at 6:44 PM
dale
I got a chance to watch some Perry Mason movies from the 1930s.  I didn't even know about them!  Sure, I watched the Perry Mason on T.V. with Raymond Burr, but that's it.

So I was surprised.

I saw most of The Case of the Lucky Legs, The Case of the Velvet Claws and The Case of the Stuttering Bishop.

I laughed so hard.  They were kinda loose with a slight edge of crazy slapstick and banter.  Flirting.  Heck, in one movie Perry MARRIED Della.

Have you ever seen the Nick and Nora Charles mystery movies - The Thin Man series?  And their dog, Asta?  That is also funny, funny stuff from the 30s and 40s.  I was surprised the feel of each series was so similar.

Sometimes watching the classics gives and education and makes you laugh.

Writing Status - What Status?

  • Jun. 30th, 2009 at 7:00 PM
dale

I just don't get it.  Maybe I'm thinking too much or maybe I'm not thinking enough.

Since the end of Season 4 of Supernatural, I've had plotbunnies knocking down my door.  Every day.  I can SEE the things in my head.  I can even come up with words while I'm staring at the TV or getting ready for bed.

Then I sit down at the computer (or get out my notebook and pen), and it's ALL FOR NOTHING.  Nothing.  Blank.  I can't even seem to take notes so I can use them later to write the darn things.

I think this has gone beyond writer's block.  This is something else.  It's been a long time since I could just sit down and enjoy working with characters I love.  I miss it.
